CBT-E OVERVIEW

How we treat

Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E) was developed at Oxford University and has been used to effectively treat eating disorders for over 20 years. Considered a first-line approach for adults with eating disorders, at Namona, CBT-E is delivered virtually by specialized providers.

Core Tenets of CBT-E

Individualized

Treatment begins with an individually drawn map of your eating disorder, leading to greater awareness of the factors that have been keeping your eating disorder going and enhancing motivation for change.

Skill-based

CBT-E uniquely focuses on the thought processes that underlie disordered eating behaviors in the here and now, such as negative body image. For example, CBT-E provides strategies for addressing body checking, social media use, body avoidance, and preoccupation with weight and shape.

Recovery-focused

CBT-E provides new behavioral strategies you can start testing out right away, and proactively plans for relapse prevention to keep you on the road to recovery.

EXAMPLE WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Intensive Outpatient Program

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a good fit for people who have not yet seen good results from outpatient therapy or who are stepping down from higher levels of care such as residential settings.

During IOP treatment, you’ll meet for 3 hours each weekday for supported meals and CBT-E skills groups, plus weekly individual meetings with your therapist and dietitian.

Our virtual IOP offerings are designed to work flexibly with your schedule, keeping you in the realities of day-to-day life while working toward sustained eating disorder recovery.
